Genetic unit

The genetic division of Grupo Los Lazos is developed in Cabaña El Volcán, focusing on a large production of pedigree animals and also in Estancia Santa Dominga, focused on the breeding of Purebred animals.

Pedigree heifers from Montana, USA, were strategically imported in search of genetics that adapt to Argentine production systems and to both domestic and international markets.
Cabaña El Volcán has one of the largest pedigree Angus and Polled Hereford herds in the country. The Pedigree bulls bred improve the own purebred herd, and are also offered to insemination centers and other breeders. Through an agreement with the firm Zoetis of Pfizer, it was possible to determine the genotype of the herd, making it the only one in the country with 100% genotyping.

The entire herd is subjected to different types of measurements, among which are: birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, scrotal circumference height, ultrasound measurements to determine the rib eye area, marbling, dorsal and hip fat. These measurements are sent to the ERA Program (Angus Breeding Stock Evaluation), carried out by the Asociación Argentina de Angus (Argentine Angus Association) in order to generate the EPDs (Expected Progeny Differences) of the different parameters evaluated.
El Volcán has implemented ISO 9001 standards in the ranch for more than 15 years, which speaks of the importance they attach to the procedures. It has received numerous awards, including Grand Champions at the Palermo Rural Exposition, one of the most important agricultural events in the world. El Volcán has been the Best Angus Ranch in Argentina 5 times in the last years. In Santa Dominga, the main activity is the breeding of purebred cattle, with a herd of approximately 3,000 wombs, which also makes it one of the largest producers in the country.
